Disability Benefit Program
The CCPOA Disability Benefit Program offers choices of Silver Shield, Gold Shield or Occupational Gold Shield Rider coverage.
You have a challenging job with more than a fair share of risk and exposure to harm. To protect yourself and your loved ones, the CCPOA Benefit Trust Fund offers an income protection benefit if you are seriously injured or ill and out of work for an extended period. The CCPOA Disability Benefit Program is a voluntary, self-pay program. You pay a small monthly premium for either Gold or Silver Shield coverage. In exchange, you have the peace of mind knowing that you can protect yourself and your income.
A disability that prevents you from working can have a major impact on your life. Aside from the mental and physical effects, the repercussion on your finances can be devastating. Disability coverage offers you peace of mind, by providing you with a source of income while you’re disabled and unable to work.
The Disability Benefit Program provides benefits if you are unable to work due to a disability that is covered under the Program (not all disabilities are covered under the program). To safeguard your family’s financial well being, the Plan gives you a choice between three coverage levels:
- Silver Shield Coverage – for your short-term illnesses or injuries (up to 24 months)
- Gold Shield Coverage – for both short and long-term illnesses and injuries caused by a non-occupational incident.
- Occupational Gold Shield Coverage – for both short and long-term illnesses and injuries caused while on the job.
