Former Fair Share members,
This letter is to inform you of a recent action taken by the Department of Personnel Administration (“DPA”) toward Fair Share members. The DPA has informed the CCPOA that it is no longer entitled to receive fair share fee deductions. As a result, people who were Fair Share are no longer members of the CCPOA and therefore, not eligible for any benefits through the CCPOA Benefit Trust Fund. The last Fair Share fee deduction from their payroll warrant occurred in September 2007. As a result those individuals who were Fair Share no longer have benefits through the Trust as of November 1, 2007. The benefits lost are as follows:
- CCPOA Primary Dental
- WesternDental
- CCPOA Vision Service Program (VSP)
- $20,000 Basic Life Insurance
- $5,000 Accidental Death
- Basic Legal Defense Fund
- Basic Family Legal Plan offered through Caldwell Legal
This action was taken by DPA. There is nothing that the CCPOA or CCPOA Benefit Trust Fund can do about what has happened. If a former Fair Share member has any questions, please direct him/her to contact William Page, Program Manager, Department of Personnel Administration at 916-445-9801.
From the information the Trust has available, it appears that there are closer to 800 individuals who have been affected by this. The only method to correct what has happened is for these individuals to become members of the association. The individual will have to go to Personnel and complete new STD-692 and STD-700 forms, choosing the benefits they were enrolled in. Payroll deduction can take up to 8 weeks to complete.

Former Fair Share Member Update, 11/08/2007
If you want to join the union as full dues paying members, these are the two options available to you.
Steps to becoming a full dues paying member with no lapse in dental and vision coverage:
- Fill out a union application (direct pay 2 months of dues $79.87 a month).
- Direct pay 2 months (Nov. and Dec) of premiums to BTF - vision ($10.61 a month) and dental ($86.13 a month).
- During the special open enrollment period (Nov.13-Nov 30) go to their personnel specialist and fill out the dental form (STD 692)
and the vision form (STD 700) to re-enroll in our dental and vision plans. Please keep a copy of any paperwork you turn in.
Steps becoming a full dues paying member, with dental and vision starting in January 2008:
- Fill out a union application.
- During the special open enrollment period (Nov.13-Nov 30) go to their personnel specialist and fill out the dental form (STD 692)
and the vision form (STD 700) to re-enroll in our dental and vision plans.
