Anthem Blue Cross, one of California's largest insurance companies has been in the news a lot over the huge rate hikes that will soon go into effect. These rate increases DO NOT impact CCPOA Members with Medical plans through The Benefit Trust. Group plans offered through CalPERS are also unaffected.
Blue Cross of California and Blue Shield of California do have similar names, and share a common corporate parent- Anthem Health Care, but the rate increases are ONLY targeted at individual Blue Cross Plans. Group plans offered through the CCPOA Benefit trust Fund are underwritten by Blue Shieldof California - NOT Blue Cross.
These rate increases are not yet in effect, and with the current economy have sparked many calls for investigation, including a response directlyc from President Obamatoto Anthem. We will keep our Members informed if and when more details develop that may impact their benefits.
